In this work new azo derivatives of 5-nitroimidazole containing drug moiety were synthesized by reacting metronidazole with various aromatic primary amines to get (compound A1-A4) similarly ornidazole with various diazonium salt to get the (compound B1-B3). Lead compounds were characterized by melting point, TLC, elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR and mass spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their in-vitro antibacterial activity by cup plate method (diffusion technique) showed promising antibacterial activity against standard drug co-trimoxazole. Showed significant antifungal activity against fluconazole as standard drug by diffusion method.
